Healing: a Choice

True healing is not a passive process that happens overnight or without our consent. It is neither a simple wish nor someone else’s command. It begins from a deep place of choice: a sincere, authentic, fully embraced choice. It is the moment when we say, with all our fears and doubts: “I want to be free. I want to move forward, even if it hurts.”

This choice is perhaps the hardest step. Because it holds not only hope, but also the recognition of true pain. The pain of realizing that what we thought was love may have been only a shadow, an unfulfilled need, a bond that kept us in invisible chains.

This heart-wrenching pain is often silent, misunderstood even by those who live it. It is a loss of the foundation upon which we built a part of ourselves, a painful recalibration of how we relate to ourselves and to others. It is one of the most devastating defeats for the soul.

And yet, this pain is an integral part of the path. It cannot be avoided, only postponed or traversed. When fully experienced, it opens the door to real love, to genuine presence, and to deep freedom. Without acknowledging and feeling this pain in its full depth, transformation remains superficial.

Without this conscious choice, healing remains only a dream, a waiting that keeps us prisoners of the past. Choice sets us in motion, even when each step forward is fragile and heart-rending.

Healing is a courageous and profound act of taking responsibility for one’s own life, with all its complexities and imperfections. And ultimately, this authentic choice is the gateway to liberation and meaning: not a meaning given from the outside, but a meaning lived, discovered step by step, in the natural movement of life: forward.
